Tips for Attending a Performance

Appropriate Attire

Orpheum Theater San Francisco

In the laid-back atmosphere of San Francisco, there’s no need to fret about your attire when attending a show at the Orpheum Theater San Francisco. You’ll find that most attendees opt for jeans or business casual attire.

Here’s a snapshot of my husband and me during one of our visits to see Hamilton. It can give you a glimpse of the prevailing dress style among fellow theatergoers.

Dressing Recommendations for Opening Night

On the occasion of the opening night, some individuals prefer to dress up a bit more than usual. If you have attire that exudes a sense of elegance, including tasteful jeans or casual pants, you will seamlessly blend in with the ambiance.

Tips for the Intermission

One of the aspects that make this theater truly special is its rich history, dating back to its construction in 1926. However, due to its age, there is a notable downside—a scarcity of restroom facilities.

Should you require a restroom break during the intermission, it is advisable to promptly vacate your seat and join the queue. Though it may seem trivial, trust me when I say that the lines, particularly for women, tend to be quite long. Sometimes, you may find yourself still occupied when the second or third act commences.

Engaging in a bit of prior planning, such as familiarizing yourself with the restrooms’ location before taking your seat, can prove quite helpful.

Parking Locations

If feasible, I highly recommend utilizing public transportation since the streets in this part of town can be rather perplexing. They are often congested and incorporate numerous one-way thoroughfares. Nevertheless, if you opt to drive, there are ample parking options available.

The following are a few nearby parking spots. It’s worth noting, though, that several of these options can be quite expensive. Thus, it would be wise to take this into consideration if you intend to drive.

  • SOMA Grand Parking Garage: 1160 Mission St.
  • City Park: Essex Fox Plaza, 50 8th St.
  • UC Hastings Parking Garage: 376 Larkin St.
  • Golden Gate Garage, Turquoise Parking: 64 Golden Gate Ave.
  • Turk Garage/Lot, Turquoise Parking: 67 Turk St.

Public Transportation

Reaching the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco is a straightforward endeavor when utilizing public transportation. Here are a few of the top transportation choices:

  • Buses: 6, 7, 9, 19, 21
  • Light Rail: Civic Center station, serviced by J, K, L, M, and N
  • Streetcar: F The streetcar conveniently drops you off right in front of the theater at Market and Hyde.
  • BART: Civic Center Station. Locate the sign directing you to 8th and Hyde Streets.

Traveling from Fisherman’s Wharf

There are two excellent options for traveling from Fisherman’s Wharf to the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco. The most popular choice is the F Streetcar. These charming historic cars offer an enjoyable ride and conveniently drop you off right in front of the Orpheum.

Alternatively, you can opt for the 19 bus. Boarding can be done on the western side of Fisherman’s Wharf. While this option is quicker, it may not offer the same level of amusement during the journey.

Traveling from Union Square

If you are departing from Union Square, I suggest taking any outbound light rail train to the Civic Center Station. You can catch these trains at Powell Station, and since it’s just one stop away, you can board any outbound train available.
